Admission
Criteria & Procedures |
| Any child between the ages of
2½ and 4 years who is toilet-trained
and able to leave the primary adult without
difficulty may be eligible for admission to
the Primary class. Five year-olds without prior
Montessori experience are admitted on a limited
basis as are children between the ages of 6
and 12 to the Elementary class (grades 1-6).
Priority consideration will be given to siblings
of students and alumni. Children with special
needs (such as physical handicaps, learning
disabilities, AIDS, chronic health conditions
requiring medication, etc.) may be admitted
after it has been established, upon consultation
with the teacher and the Director, that those
needs can be properly addressed. |
- Children may be admitted at any time during
the year when there is a vacancy for their
age group.
- Prospective families receive written information
about CFMS through the mail.
- The parents schedule an appointment to
tour the school and see the classrooms.
- After a tour, an application for admission
may be submitted. A $35 non-refundable application
fee must accompany the enrollment application.
- The parents and prospective student have
an interview with the Director of Education.
If the interview takes place during the school
year, the child may visit a classroom; at
other times of the year the child may spend
some time with the teacher. Appointments must
be made by calling the school office.
- Families of accepted students execute an
enrollment contract with CFMS. A nonrefundable
deposit (credited to tuition) is due upon
acceptance or, in the case of families applying
for financial aid, by the date specified in
the financial aid award letter. The enrollment
contract covers tuition, fundraising, and
co-op obligations.
- Classroom assignments are made by teachers
according to Montessori principles, which
call for cross-age groupings.
- All required forms (health, emergency,
etc.) must be on file, and all fees must be
paid up to date, when the child starts school.
